I'm new at this, so hopefully I will make sense.

I just did a clean install of XP on my Toshiba Satellite 1905-S303. It's an old laptop that I hadn't used in awhile b/c of other problems. However, the computer cannot seem to find a network adapter. It just lists the generic 1394 Net Adapter.

I ran Everest and the report only lists a modem (which is working). I'm assumed a driver was missing, but nothing I downloaded from the Toshiba website was correct.

What am I missing? The ethernet port is there and has power, but there is no Local Area Connection.

try downloading the Chipset Driver pack. Everst should either list the motherboard model or the chipset model, and you can go to either manufacturers website and find the chipset download. Most chipset packages for motherboards with onboard LAN have the ethernet driver packaged in.

If you have trouble, try to give us the motherboard model or chipset model and we can search for you. I am gonna quickly try to find the driver for you before I have to run to class
