Cannot Get Google Drive For Desktop To Show Up In File Explorer

I cannot get Google Drive for Desktop to show up in File Explorer on my PC running Windows 11. (I also have a laptop running Win 11 and it works fine on that).

I have tried everything I can think of which includes totally uninstalling the software and downloading it and installing again (3 times now), logging out and back in of my google account, using another google account instead, and using different browsers (including Chrome) when it asks me to sign in.

Even though it says it’s installed ok, I’m pretty sure there’s something going wrong at that point because my research tells me that when I see the icon in the bottom right hand tray, it should be in colour but it’s grey. Research also tells me that when I click that icon and then the settings icon, and preferences, I should see an option to connect to folders from my computer, but that’s just not there.

So from that I try and “sign in through your browser” but every time after I’ve clicked on my account and then sign in, it comes back with “Sorry, something went wrong there, please try again”.

And I just never get past that. As I have gmail, from Google Apps I can click on Google Drive and it happily shows me the drive. So I can see the drive. But I cannot get it to show up in File Explorer and then copy files etc.

I have googled so much on this thinking surely someone else must have had this problem, but no luck.
