Cannot Get Internet

Gateway laptop, Windows 7. I have 3 other laptops all can get internet. This one can get nothing at all. When I click the internet icon, I get a red x with "no connections available". My experience is limited other than basics. What help can you give me please.

 

Could be the wireless switch is off. If I Google Gateway wireless switch I get a number of suggestions. Try it. If you can include the model number in your search that might help.

 

i managed to get to manage wireless networks. my network is showing in bold, but security, type, and auto connect are greyed out

 

As stated above, check your Wifi switch on the laptop is on.
If all good, click the network icon (bottom right in system tray) and select network and sharing center.
In there should be a setting labelled 'change adapter settings' or something of a kind (havent used 7 in a while)
Find your Wifi adapter (this is your laptops NIC)
Right click it and choose disable.......right click again and select enable.
(If it originally has any red crosses, its already disabled so you need to enable it again)

This basically resets your wifi adapter, then your network icon at the bottom should list available wifi networks you can attach too.
