I just got a Dell Studio 17 three weeks ago. Up until 3 days ago, it's been fine- no problems, nothing abnormal. On Sunday night the computer would not allow me to view any pages on the internet although it keeps telling me that I am connected. On my gadgets, the newsfeed is running (which would indicate that it is connected). We have the problem in both Explorer and in Mozilla.
I installed Mozilla, Super Anti-spyware and we use the factory installed McAfee Security stuff. We turned off the Windows Firewall.

I have gone to tools in Explorer and put the settings back to default condition.
The Dell tech guy had me put it in safe mode and then told me that i would need to completely restore it to the factory settings. I don't want to do that unless there is no other option.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Please just go light on the computer lingo as I'm still learning!

Your problem commonly occurs with both McAfee and Norton security products. I have found that even disabling them does not fix the problem. In the past, I have had to use a 'deep uninstaller' like this one to get rid of the security program, restart the PC, and with any luck you should get online. However, if you like McAfee and have no means of re-installing it, then you might want to try some other fixes. Talk a look at these links:

    Good luck!

Duh. Obviously, it should read "TAKE a look....".

thanks for the info. i am pretty sure it is a firewall issue. i am trying a system restore and we'll see if that does the trick.
