Cannot get past Blue Screen on bootup

The internet stopped working on my computer today and, after turning off a few "safe" apps in the startup panel under msconfig, I started getting the Blue Screen of Death with a stop error of 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL).

The message says I should check newly installed hardware or software. Except for Cyberlink's Power DVD off their own site, I have not installed anything on that computer in months.

I googled the above error codes and the pages I found all seem to assume I am able to boot up into a state where I can apply whatever fix they are recommending but I can't even get into safemode.

I am running Windows XP Pro (SP2 I believe) on an AMD processor.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can proceed?

Thanks for the reference. I tried a number of the suggestion but in the end, I just swapped my E: drive with my C: drive and re-installed Windows.

I'm still not sure what happened. All documentation seems to indicate a hardware error, which seems unlikely given that all I have on this machine besides the extra drive are a DVD and graphics card.

I wonder if the 0xa stop error can be caused by malware?

 

Well if you even suspect any Malware then go to the Malware forum here and do as suggested in the top-line stickies.
