cannot insert e-mail address

I have a strange problem that has plagued me for a couple of days now and hope someone here can throw some light on it.

my PC works perfectly in all aspects until i try to insert an E-Mail address into any page on my browser I.E. log in to hotmail,i start to type the address and when i come to the part where i press ALT GR and the AT key (number 2 on the keyboard i cannot insert it) it immediately shuts my browser (FF or IE7) i have rebooted but no result.

i am using WINDOWS XP PRO so if anyone can help please do :confused

 

i have managed to get @ back with system restore but am still unsure what caused the problem in the first place so any info is gratefully received

 

I'm confused, where does the ALT key come into play when typing the @ symbol?

***My ultimate guess on your situation is that one of the programs you reinstalled has a keyboard shortcut combination that is causing the problem.

Edit:

I just read the Wiki entry on AltGR and see the Danish keyboard layout is different, I'll think about this problem.

 

I too was puzzled by use of alt+2.
I have a list of all the alt combinmations (or at least a great many of them) and alt+2 isn't listed in any of the entries.

 

I was just playing around with the alt+2 combination and find that in IE it takes my screen to the top of the page I'm viewing.

 

sometimes my computer in work sort of locks the alt key. I'm using win98 and an old P2 machine. It behaves like the caps lock except the alt key is locked. when i press tab for instance it brings up the "choose app" thingy. just pressing alt again will get rid of the lock though. Maybe something like that?
