I recently downloaded two free antivirus programs and they downloaded perfectly but when I double clicked on the icon, nothing happened. I tried several times but nothing at all. I was using windows xp professional. I think I have administrative priviledges but I'm not sure. I was having virus problems so I downloaded a free antivirus program in safe mode and it installed and ran and even cleaned out about 50 virus (sent to quarantine).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If you already have an antivirus program installed you shouldn't install another one until you uninstall the first one
Having more than 1 antivirus program can cause conflicts and problems on your computer.
Perhaps you should read THIS: READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 and follow all instructions....then if you think you need malware removal help post in the Malware Forum

Thanks for responding. I guess I forgot an important bit of information.
I installed an free antivirus program in safe mode and it ran fine but when I booted up to normal mode it eventually stopped working. So I uninstalled it and tried to download and install it again.
that's where the problem started. I could download it easily when when I tried to install it, nothing happened. I don't know what to do unless i go back to safe mode to install it. In safe mode I could log in as administrator or My name. Under users, I seen to have administrative priviledges.

    Thanks

You may want to post in the malware section of our forums.

What you have posted, sounds like something might have been messed up with the .exe(cutable) execution of files that need to be run. Since you can run the file in safe mode but not normal mode, leads to the malware infection.

There are work arounds to this, but I won't go there, until you have visited the malware section.
