Hi, this is my first post and I am really looking forward to your help.
I recently acquired a used Dell Optiplex GX260 series that was used as a network PC in my office. At home I have dial-up, so my brother gave me a modem. It's an Intel modem MD 5628D-L-C and I downloaded the driver from driverguide.com. The downloaded zip file did not contain an .exe file. Should it have?
Unfortunately, all I get in my device manager is a yellow question mark and nothing was installed. It did state that the device was a PCI Simple Communications Controller, location in PCI slot 1; PCI bus 1, device 7, function 0. I am clueless when it comes to modems, but because I can't connect to the internet with that PC I cannot troubleshoot anything. I am posting this from my main home PC and have added as much information as possible.
    Thank you in advance.

I'm a little bit confused by the info but anyway. If it's a phone modem card i'm assuming. You can go into device manager and right click where you see that yellow symbol next to the name of the modem and select Properties. There you can update the modem driver by directing it to the folder where the drivers are at. I hope that helps. I may not be seeing the whole picture. :)

Thank you for your response, but the link you supplied won't load. I'm getting 'Document not found' response. Any suggestions?

Hey Speculant, of course I logged in first. The response is pasted below:
    Document Not Found
The document you requested was not found. It may have moved or been replaced.

Is there something missing from the link? Thanks for your help.

hmmm...thats weird, it worked for me

anyways, since you cant download the file, i uploaded it for you:

just extract and run exe, and then follow the instructions i gave you earlier

when running the exe, make sure to extract to your desktop for easier access to the driver files

OK, I did as you suggested, but now the PC still does not recognise the driver. I tried installing it with the hardware wizard, but am stuck in trying to select the driver since mine (Intel V.92 PCI data fax modem) doesn't appear on the list.
