cannot install windows updates

I have been having problems trying to 2 windows updates .I have been trying for days and it jsut wont install.The updates are ffice 2003 service pack 3 (SP3) and outlook junk email filter 2003 (KB943552)
Yes it is a genuinue office that I have btw.
Can you be gentle with your reply i am a quite proficient senior lady!!

Then I also came across this which was posted on 16 Nov. 2007, newer than the MS article.

Just Follow the following Instructions:
1. Click on "START"
2. Click on "RUN"
3. Type the following on run text box: "services.msc" click ok
4. You will see SERVICES box.
5. On the right box: NAME (COLUMN) look for file name : "OFFICE SOURCE ENGINE"
6. Highlight on it. You have to look on "STARTUP TYPE COLUMN" : must show MANUAL.
7. If not, you must double click on the highlight "OFFICE SOURCE ENGINE"
8. You will see box OFFICE SOURCE ENGINE PROPERTIES (LOCAL COMPUTER): and choose startup type to manual (Scroll up) and then click "OK"
9. After that click on "START" START the service (Left corner above) Description: Saves installation .......... etc
10. Install the update again.

Since two people, having the same problem you have with the same two updates refusing to install, did this and it worked, you might want to try this first.

Did you download SP3 from Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)?
