Cannot Install Zone Alarm - Install Error 1636

I am trying to install Zone Alarm on a laptop. I receive the message "An error occurred installing the package. Windows Installer returned "1636."

This is happening on a fresh Vista install on a Toshiba satellite laptop.

Try downloading another version of ZA. Some versions have more issues than others.
For me personally, I would try Comodo Free instead.

Last I checked the free version of ZA is not compatable with Vista. I'm not entirely sure about the newer versions.

You may want to try upgrading Windows installer to version 4.5.

the latest version of zone alarm is compatible with win7/vist and xp. the installer package you have may be corrupt try downloading a fresh copy " http://www.majorgeeks.com/ZoneAlarm_Free_d388.html " and try and install it again.

i got a solution for you !

When you launch ZA installer just download the software !
Do not choose download and execute !

Then when you received the software (20 mo), right click on and go to the compatibility section !

Down to the section you will see a box to check "execute this software as an administrator" !

Now Za installer can run !

This solution solve a lot of software trouble with wista !:cool

I did try to run as admin, I should have stated that in my post. I will try again though . . .

It looks like I might need to try to download an older version.

 

It seems I needed to update Widows to SP1 for the newest version of ZA. I updated to SP2 and install went fine.
