Cannot Left-click In Firefox

This morning I updated FF on my desktop PC. Two days earlier I updated it on my laptop PC. Ever since I've been unable to left click on links in many websites but not all. This affects FF on both my PCs. The only way I'm able to open the link is by right clicking on it and choosing open in a new tab (or window). Is this an issue with the lastest version of FF? Although I see no one else has posted about it in the forum. How do I identify the problem and fix it? I know it's not major but it's quite irritating.

Start in Troubleshoot mode and see if the problem continues. (Firefox, Help, Troubleshoot Mode).

Yes, the problem continues in Troubleshoot mode.

That tells us it is NOT one of your addons causing the problem. Let me see if I can find anyone having the issue in 92.0.1
I run FF ESR so my latest version is 91.1.

I'd be tempted to try another browser. I always have at least 3 browsers on every device (android tablets, android phone, Windows computers and Chromebook) except for my Kindle which only has the browser that came with the Kindle OS.

I haven't found anything from late September 2021 so I started looking at anything discussing intermittent left mouse click problems.
Be sure ClickLock wasn't accidentally turned on.

In the process of searching, I discovered that if I double click using the middle button, a link opens in a new tab.

This might work for you: hold down the ctrl key while left clicking a link. Does a new tab open with that link?

This is using two different mice or a mouse and a touchpad, correct?

Could you provide any examples of pages where you see this issue?

@plodr: Thank you for all your help with this issue. After running the FF Troubleshoot and discovering the problem still existed I assumed it was down to an FF problem. I'm pleased what you have said confirms this. It is definitely only a problem with FF. I've tried Microsoft Edge and the problem doesn't exist there. I've also checked my mouse settings and ClickLock isn't turned on. Yes, it involves using a mouse with a desktop PC and a touchpad on a laptop. The reason I suspect FF is because the problem has just appeared on two computers and both after updating FF. I haven't tried the desktop because I'm not at home but have the laptop with me and the solution of pressing the 'Crtl' key whilst left-clicking works by opening the link in the new window.

I'm afraid I don't recall them all. It was only after the problem persisting that I thought I had the problem. Initially, I thought it was a problem with the websites. Therefore, I didn't take a note of them and as I was generally browsing it didn't seem important. One I can remember (and I still have the problem) is with Chester Zoo's webite. It's not all the links. For example, if I go to the bottom of their homepage I can left click on 'Corporate Information' and the link opens fine. That link brings up a list of others and I cannot open any of them by left clicking.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox, 92.0.1, on three different systems and all the Chester Zoo links under Corporate Information open on left click so this is not a general Firefox issue. Maybe something else you updated about the same time is responsible - do you have Malwarebytes installed for example and if so have you activated the Malwarebytes Browser guard? I would still suspect this or another Firefox extension to be the cause.

I think we ruled out an extension when I had him open FF in Troubleshooting mode and the issue still occurred.

Do you have a FF theme installed? If so, disable that and use the default. (I have a theme and in the past, it has caused strange issues which eventually cleared up.)

Troubleshoot is also supposed to disable themes. Perhaps, like me, you are wondering whether trouble shoot is totally effective :(

I didn't know troubleshoot also disabled themes. Thanks for letting me know, Earthling. (I run FF ESR now at 91.2 as of today's update so I can't help much with problems in the regular v 92 which today stands at v 93.) I couldn't find anyone mentioning this problem in 2021. Left click problems were mentioned about 5 years ago.

Perhaps try v 93 and see if it has sorted itself out.

If not, you can grab the last v 91 from here (91.9)

I did also recently update Malwarebytes but didn't suspect that. It did ask me if I wanted to add Browser Guard and I consented. Today, is the first opportunity I've had to check again. Malwarebytes Browser Guard is active and I wanted to see if I could reproduce the problem. If I could I then intended to turn off Broswer Guard and try again to see if that was the cause of my problem. However, I could not reproduce the problem. Therefore, I wonder, does Browser Guard 'learn' and adapt to what you browse? Whatever the issue was it seems to have gone away without truly knowing what caused it. I shall monitor the situation to ensure it is doesn't come back.

Ah, Earthling, I've never clicked on Troubleshoot mode so I didn't see the popup.
As far as Malwarebytes, I've always refused browser guard. You can go into the browser and disable it. I just feel BrowserGuard would interfere with tools that the browser contained.

Which version of Malwarebytes, paid or free?

    Edit - don't bother replying
