cannot log in to IE

I have Internet Explorer Version 5.1 and Windows XP Home Edition, SP2. Lately, I haven't been able to bring up my log in page for MSN and, as a result, can't get my Hotmail. Prior to this, I deleted temporary files & cookies in my computer. Not sure if this caused the trouble, because I've never had a problem before after doing this. However, I failed to go back & secure my spyware after disconnecting it to download RegCure with a free scan. When I viewed my spyware list it showed a
Trojan infection. I fixed that. Please help. Skeezix

 

Thank you for your prompt reply & answer to my question. Yes, you're right, I do have IE 6. Sorry for that mistake.
Just before I found a reply to my post, I tried searching the web for an MSN sign in link. I found one and it worked. I'm now able to get IE and my hotmail. As you have suggested, I should update to IE 7, but I've put it off because of all the trouble with back & forth e-mails to straighten it out. It seems the quirks weren't ironed out by Microsoft before it was presented to the public. I'm leery of IE 7. I'll never try 8 or Vista as I've read problems associated with them. My next update will be Firefox. Windows is too unreliable. In the near future, I'll try your Malware suggestion. Thanks again. Skeezix
