Cannot open I.E. & MS Word is acting crazy.

Please HELP......I'm having a hard time with all this and wonder should I uninstall stuff?? I cannot get to I.E. on the other computer so everything I do will be through my laptop and transferred by downloading on a cd and putting it on the other computer.

Did you mean PFN_LIST_CORRUPT? The PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error is usually caused by bad drivers or bad ram.
1. Check for any yellow exclamation marks in the device manager and report them here.
2. Try reinstalling the drivers for your network card/modem. You can do this easily by deleting your network card/modem from the device manager and rebooting. Then windows should reinstall it. If not, follow the instructions in your manual.
3. Test your ram with memtest86

 

There are no yellow exclamation marks in the device manager and I don't see a network card/modem, the only thing under Network adapters is a SiS 900 based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter?

I can't do a memtest because I can't open anything in the web!!! All I get are Microsoft Error messages. I have also lost my sound on the computer!

Also, my laptop would be working off the network adapter wouldn't it? I am not having a problem with it?

Reinstall the driver for the SiS 900 based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter by deleting it from the device manager and letting windows reinstall it.
The network adapter is in your computer, your laptop uses it's own. (I guess you have both desktop and laptop).
Well you can type here, so you can access the internet then. memtest is an ISO image that should be downloaded, burnt to CD and booted from.

 

I uninstalled the network adapter and rebooted. On the reboot a message appeared saying "windows has been deactivated for more than 3 days, do you want to activate now?" I pressed yes and a message came up saying I had only 3 days left for activation? Then the Micorsoft Security Center window opened up and on the left it had bullets and I pressed "get latest security & virus info from Windows" a message then came up which said this computer has just recdovered from a serious problem and must close......could not get into net and I opened it to see what the error signature was and I copied it as follows:

Does this make any sense? I downloaded the memtest to a cd and I will try to run it now.

 

I burned a cd w/memtest and put it into the desktop computer and it cannot open it.....it says "windows cannot open this file"

Put the CD in your drive and reboot the computer. The CD needs to be in the drive when you turn on the computer. memtest86 is a bootable program and does not require windows or any other OS to run. You should boot from the memtest86 CD. A lot of computers will automatically boot from the CD, but some need to be told so. Consult your manual if yours doesn't want to boot from the CD. Sorry if i wasn't clear enough the first time

 

Tried a couple of times to boot up from the cd (pressed f11 at start up to go to boot menu and chose cd) get a message that it's an invalid boot ini file?

Also, did you read the part where I keep getting a messsage that I only have 3 days to activate this copy windows? If I try I just get more error messages from Microsoft......and this goes on and on and on......

Question: did you just burn the iso to the CD as a file? The iso is a CD image, if you use Nero you should choose Recorder->Burn Image. Other burning programs should have a similar menu option. (Use a CD-RW, you probably won't need to run memtest86 that often)

 

Thanks for the clarification.......the memtest has been running for 3 hours now? Is that normal and what will happen when it's all done? Does it give some type of report?

It will keep testing until you stop it. There should be an error column. If the number here is not 0, you have a RAM problem. 3 hours should be enough, as long as at least one complete test has been run (also indicated, next to the error column).

 

Wow, well I just got back from being out and there are now 139,695 errors and it's been running for 5 hrs and 53 minutes!!!!! It just kept redoing the same test over and over and over ergo the massive amount of errors!

Guess I have a RAM problem! What now?

The only thing you can do is buy new RAM and pray your motherboard didn't die.
