Trying to ping 192.168.1.1 (The Access Point)
Using the OEM ethernet cable supplied with the device.
Device has hard rest w/paperclip to default settings which the instructions say is the above address.

What could prevent the command line ping from reaching this address?

some routers are set not to reply to ping requests to cut down on traffic.

I think i remember seeing the option to respond to pings in the settings on one of my routers.

This device has only one ethernet port and I'm only able to get it to allow me in on the configuration page in perhaps one in fifty attempts (my fingers are bleeding).

The instructions say that you must:
    1) de-select DHCP in my desktop's LAN/NIC TCP/IP preference settings.
    2) Then enter 192.168.1.10 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Kind of lame as everytime you want to test the thing for internet connectivity you must go and reset the LAN to DHCP.

Can anyone suggest some way to "blast through" the error mesages and make the thing open its config (or "Status" page).

I read somewhere that holding down shift/F5/Enter- 192.168.1.1 is useful in getting some routers to show their Confirguration page, but not this device.
