Cannot power on wireless adapter

I'm having problems with my wireless adapter; I can't seem to install and power on my wireless. I tried to re-install my wireless adapter but I can't (I can't see anything related to my wireless adapter in Device Manager after installation). I checked the hardware to see if it is seated properly and it was, I also inserted another hardware to see if my hardware is defected or not and the wireless did not work with that wireless card. I installed newer version of BIOS and did not help. Because the driver for the adapter cannot be installed I can't enable the wireless adapter. With all these attempts to solve the problem the wireless key light remains orange (off). Any kind of help is appreciated.

p.s. I have Windows Vista Home Edition, AMD Turion 64 X2 1.8 GHz, 32-bit Operating System, wireless adapter is Broadcom BCM43XX, my laptop is DV6404CA HP. Thank you

 

is you network adapter (cable) working?

 

yes, my wired network works but my wireless does not, if thats what u mean

 

sounds like the card died. is it under warrenty? if it is get it checked by a bench tech at a warrenty approved store. i know that is not answer your looking for. if its not under warenty post it here and i will try to find some software to check it for you

 

The network card you mean? I don't think its dead because I inserted another network card and that didn't work either. But I can give the software you were talking about a try.

 

do you mean you you but in another wireless card? just a thought, are you sure you turned the card on? i know its a dumb question but sometimes its the simple answers that work. how are you suppose to turn on our wireless adapter?

 

there is a switch at the front of the laptop and if the card turns on then the light goes blue but it doesn't.

 

here is the link for the latest drivers for your system. download the chipset, wireless card,bios and active support library
install the bios first then the chipset then the wireless card drivers. if that fails the install the active library and try to troubleshoot the card. let us know how it goes and any error codes or messages produced both by the software and in the windows system and application log

Nothing helped. When I go to HP Home Network Center it says that "Wireless adapter is not installed", after installing the driver for Broadcom. And for HP Active Library I don't know how to use it or where the exe file is. Do you think that maybe the slot itself is burned? How can I make sure?

it's a 2 year old system

 

i hate to say this it sounds like a mainboard issue. go to hp and check your warrenty status on the MB, it usually is 3 yrs. you will need the sn and the pn.
