Cannot Print Multiple Copies

Problem: I can't print multiple copies from to my printer. As a workaround I tried to print to a PDF via PrimoPDF, but that failed as well. I've tried Excel, Word, Notepad and all won't print more than one copy, no matter how many I ask for. I have tried ticking and unticking the "collate" box to no avail. Please help...

System:
Windows Vista SP1
MS Office 2007
All fully updated

Printer:
Brother MFC-8440
Running via my network (i.e., it's hooked up from the printer's network interface card into my wireless router via an ethernet cable)
Driver is up-to-date.

I've been running this system for about a year with no trouble. the only things I can think that have changed recently is I installed COMODO free firewall and a new Targus Bluetooth USB Dongle.
