We are having a problem at work that just started a few weeks ago.

One of our clients sends us email with attachments all the time. Most are CAD files, some are pdf or doc files. Suddenly a few weeks ago, we can receive their email, but there is no attacment. There is no message that says the attachment has been removed, is harmful, etc. This is happening in Outlook Express. I even tried it in Windows Mail, still no attachment.

The funny thing is if we log onto our mail server online, the attachment is there. We can forward that email to ourselves and receive the attachment.

We have contacted both our ISP and our virus protection companies and neither one says it's their issue. I have changed security settings in OE, still no attachments.

Has anyone run into this problem and able to fix it? Thanks.

What are you using for a mail server?

Does it have an antivirus on it that may have been updated a few weeks ago?

So, you've tried it on two computers, one running Windows XP and one running Windows Vista, right?

Can you receive emails with attachments from other clients or senders?

Yes, we can receive emails with attachments from all kinds of people. We can no longer get them from anybody in the same office.

Like I said, they sit on our email server from our ISP with attachments. Once they get from there to here (or anywhere else for that matter), the attachments are gone. But we can log in to our email server via the ISP's web site, forward them to ourselves, and the attachments come through. It's just annoying is all.

    And your answer to?:
What anitivirus program do you have installed?

Who is your ISP? Does your email account show your ISP after the @ in the email address?

Do you have any non-ISP email accounts such as gmail or Hotmail/Live Mail, accounts that can be set up in an email client such as Outlook Express or Windows Mail? If so, can you set up that account in your email client and ask that client/sender to send a message with an attachment to your non-ISP account so that you can see whether it comes through?

Yes, we have had the same email sent to a machine running XP and one running Vista - same result.

We are using Avast for our antivirus. Our ISP is Windstream Hosting. And yes, our email addresses have @ourdomain.com after each user name.

Outlook will get these attachments, but OE and Windows Mail will not. Weird.

I believe you have probably already adjusted OE's default security options, but just in case -
