Cannot remove SearchForIt

Spybot picked up "SearchForIt" on my system and claims that it successfully deleted it. However, it keeps returning. Spyware Blaster seems to have protection disabled for one item. I checked forums concerning this problem and found some rather old posts from six months ago. They claim Spybot is supposedly coming up with an update. I emailed Spybot, but received no reply.

Incidentally, I am running AdAware SE (runs clean), Norton AV 2002 (clean), and the new SP2 firewall. All software is updated regularly.

I tried to manually delete the file. It went away for about five minutes and then returned.

    Suggestions anyone?

    Hi Dome,

I encountered the same thing. I believe Spybot is -for some reason- detecting the SearchForIt entry in Spyware Blaster. You'll notice that if you "fix" this with Spybot, it disables the entry to block SearchForIt in Spyware Blaster. I think SearchForIt was included in the recent Spyware Blaster database update (8-27-04). And, if after you delete it with Spybot, you "enable all protection" in Spyware Blaster, Spybot will detect it again.

I apologize for the awkward sounding answer. I wouldn't worry about this ;) - Although, someone more knowledgable than I may know better?

There is another thread here where I have commented on this issue. Search for it.

Sorry I do not have time to do it right now. Gotta run. You should be able to locate it.

Thanks to all who answered my post.

Just received an email from Team Spybot (at last). They stated that it was a false positive. After the next detection update, SearchForIt should not be recognized again.

That's what I said in the thread I pointed you to. I guess you were just looking for confirmation?

Chaslang, No, I was not seeking confirmation, just more current information. I did read your previous post of February 2004, but I figured no one would be following that thread six months later.

No offense was intended, so I hope none was taken.

No offense taken. But you were looking at the wrong thread if dated Feb 2004. The one I was referring to is the one Phillie gave: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=41348

This is from a few days ago.
