My hard drive developed some bad sectors and corrupted my Windows 7 Pro SP1 64 bit system. I cloned the drive to a new drive. I have run everything I could think of to try to repair the Windows image, but have had no success. (Tweaking Windows Repair, sfc /scannow, SFCFix, Windows Repair Disk, system update readiness tool) I tried replacing the corrupt files from another computer and from an installation disk, which had little effect to the corrupt system. I have been trying to avoid reformatting, but have had no success in the last 3 weeks. I thought I would see if you can help before I start from scratch. Thanks

Cloning the drive just transferred corrupt files to the new drive.

Have you tried a system restore or a reset?

The old hard drive appeared to be failing. My restore points only go back after the issue occured. I am not sure what a reset is.

What make and model is the computer?

It is a Dell Vostro 3750 Intel 2.30GHz, 2301 Mhz, 2 Cores, 4 logical Processors, 4 GB Ram, Windows 7 Pro, 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601. The Drive was partitioned last year and does not have the original recovery partitions.

If your factory recovery partition is gone.... I am afraid you are out of luck.

I have a System Re-Install DVD service Pack 1 that has every version of Windows 7 on it. I have another computer that is the same as mine that has the original Dell Partitions on it. I copied files off of that computer and the Re-install disk. That only slightly changed the results of the scans.

Sounds like it's time to save your data and re-install your operating system. :(

I tried the PC world article on upgrading and got the statement that "Windows 7 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional." and I had to reinstall Windows 7 using the Custom install.
