Hi,I dont have any virus's but when I tried to run Nortons in a safe mode ( first time I ever tried it ) it will not scan. I get in safe mode and bring up Nortons, but when I click to do a full scan nothing happens. But I can do a scan in VGA mode,is this normal or do I have something going on here.

I've already tried that run command and still will not scan in safe mode. This morning I also uninstalled and reinstalled Nortons, but it still will not do a scan in safe mode, ( my system is clean ). Anybody else have any ideals why I cannot run NAV in safe mode.

Are your sure your system isn't infected? There are viruses that prevent Norton from running. Do the below, if they come back clean, we will proceed with completely cleaning Norton off the system. Then do a clean reinstall.

Boot in "safe mode with networking support" (and remain in there).

First I shut down my systems restore then ran the following.
    TrendMicro On-line Scan,,,,,found nothing.
    Symantec Security Check on-line,,,,,,found nothing
    McAfee Stinger,,,,,,,found nothing
    Ad-Aware,,,,,,,found nothing
    Spybot,,,,,,,,,found nothing

I still cannot run Nortons AntiVirus in safe mode.

If your av is working well in normal mode I would sugest not to re-install it,
    it may become worse.

This is not a normal unistall. This process completely, totally, and fully removes NAV from the System. It is like it was never installed when you complete the instructions. So when you install NAV it is like you are installing it for the first time. There will be nothing left from any previous installs to corrupt this installation process.

    Otherwise, good advice kadavill

    I have NAV 2003
I used the removal tool to uninstall NAV 2003,done a clean boot ( Computer will not let me install in a safe mode ) then reinstalled NAV,downloaded all my definations and updates . Still cannot run in a safe mode, but have no problem running in a normal mode.

I cannot figure out why it won't scan in safe mode. You need to be able to do scans in safe mode to disinfect viruses that you can't get rid of in normal mode.

I have looked hi and low for a solution, there doesn't seem to be one.

At the end of your subscription period, however long that is, I would dump NAV and switch to one of the free AV Prgs available here.

Just one more reason in a long list of why I no longer use norton.

Thanks Shadow,I still have 7 months to go on Nortons, then I will be getting a new Antivirus program. I also emailed symantec,I should get an answer back sometime next week, but I won't hold my breath.....
    Thanks,
