    Thanks Tim
I am unable to download anything...I will try that and see what happens. This all started a week ago when i got this error msg saying my license for norton was damaged and i would have to re install...Thats when i ran into this problem with windows installer...I tried downloading windows and it needed validation and that didn't work as it wouldn't validate my oem xp operating system..........i have been unable to download anything since which leads me to believe i have major virus and can't install any anti viriuse through windows/
I am fustrated to say the least and I don't want to reinstal Xp all over again
    Any suggestions much appreciated

What happens when you attempt to run any .exe files? What errors ye getting?

    Unable to run .exe files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q311446/
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q310585/

On a side, note (#12321), I find typing in command.com instead of cmd to get a command window.

Then copying regedit.exe to regedit.com, then running regedit.com is a workaround.

BUT....there is also a virus, that wipes out certain functionallity of running certain executables. Hence, you can run explorer, which is an executable. (exe), you can post here, witch requires a program.exe to run.

So, I'd recommend (just to be safe):

READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

    and then post here:
    Malware Removal

Now I could be wrong about the malware related issue, but I've seen malware (virus) that prevents these programs from running. :(

I do know that running .exe files is an issue.

Have you tried safe mode, lately?

Sorry for just throwing a ton of junk in your face.
