Cannot seem to stream anything

Friends: I am trying to stream a movie using media players like VLC, Media Player Classic, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, all without success. I get messages like :"Failed to render the file" and "Your input can't be opened". I feel something is wrong with my internet settings but can't put my finger on it.
