I installed a program (Alcohol) on my computer (Windows Vista) that has caused some problems. I cannot restart the computer in safe mode to restore it and remove the program. When the computer attempts to restart in safe mode, it will shut down before it can start. I have attempted to do restart the computer in safe mode many times and it will not restart.

    How should I proceed?

Also, if registry changes have been made as a result of this program, how can I restore computer to its previous level of functioning?

Thank you for your responses Mark!

Unfortunately I am unable to do anything you have suggested because the computer will not turn on. It automatically tries to go into safe mode and this will not launch.

    - what is the *exact* name of the software program?

The program is called Alcohol 120%

    - what were the problems that occurred after install?

The computer shut down and tried to restart in safe mode. It kept cycling in this (probably about 3 times) before I implemented a hard shut down but pressing the power key.

    - why are you trying to resolve the problems via safe mode and not normal mode?

The computer will not turn on in normal mode.

    - why are you choosing to use System Restore and not simply uninstalling the program?

I really wish I could do this but I can't even get to this step.

    Suggestions?

When I try to start in normal mode, it goes to:

"a problem has been detected and your computer has been shut down . . . "

Then it kicks into Windows Error Recovery.

I cannot get the computer to launch in Safe Mode or in Normal Mode in order to uninstall this program.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks! I think I might have hit the blue screen of death. The computer I tried to install this program is not mine but my partner's and I'm trying to fix it since I caused the problem. I think he has made a back up of what he has on his computer and in the worst case scenario I will have to reinstall everything - is that correct? Is there a general way for me to address this without his back up disks (he's currently out of town)? I may have created this problem because I have a different version of windows than he does and the version I have is not compatible with vista. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed.
