    Hi
I have come up against a problem that has me stumped!
The PC i am working on has a virtual disk drive and i am unable to format, delete or unload it, i have tried all the conventional things with "disk manager" and "computer management" but it stubbornly refuses to react to any of my inputs.
    I welcome any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Bill

Have a look in the task manager Bill, it's being created by something like Nero or Alcohol. If you can identify the software it will have an option which determines whether logical drives are to be created and if so how many. You could also stop it from autostarting. Also, right clicking the drive may allow you to unload whatever is on it.

Why do you need to remove it anyway?

I suspect it has been created by Ultra Iso which is on this PC but it does not show up in task manager or disk manager.
When i right click it gives the option to "eject" but it then give an error(see pics)
The strangest part of this is that i can see the disc on "computor" but no where else in the system.

That all sounds pretty normal for virtual drives, except it not showing up in Task Manager. Check the autostart list - it has to be on that for the virtual disk to be created at all. It's harmless though and as it's autostarting the owner presumably wants it. 'Eject' is giving an error because there is no ISO loaded to eject.

    Good morning...

I just looked over at the EZB Systems forums and found a couple of virtual drive problems similar to yours. Seems like the common solution is to run the UltraISO program as administrator and set the number of virtual drives to "0".

If you can't find the UltraISO .exe, you might have to download and install the program again.

Agreed with Earthling, though - virtuals don't cause any problems for the most part.

    Thanks to you both.
I set the number of virtual drives to "0" and as you see it has now a ? mark on the drive but i am still unable to get rid of it.
I realize that they are not a problem but as i am cleaning this PC it would be nice to throw it away.

Wonder if this is one of those rare occasions when a reg clean might help? I'd try CCleaner's first and if it's still there I'd run Microsoft's Autoruns

Well i ran CCleaner and Autoruns (nothing suspicious in there.)
This is one of those things that has you scratching your head and when the solution come it will be something simple but for the moment it has me baffled.

I built this PC (it's a powerhouse) for a friend who does a lot of design work about a year ago and it has 4 HDDs and 2 physical disks (New volume 'J' is my external drive with everything i need to clean a PC but it doesn't work on this one) I remeber in the distant past having had a similar problem but how i resolved it has long ago drifted out of memory.

Please pardon the intrusion, but have you tried disabling the drive in Device Manager? The next step would be to open SCSI/Raid controllers and delete the one for that particular drive. I believe that is the way that I did it on the two occasions that I did. Hope this helps! :)

    Thanks for the help guys.
I finally got rid of it by deleting Ultra iso from the PC and deleting all the reg entries pertaining to it then i cleaned out all files from the system relating to Ultraiso and finally did a re-start to complete the job.

I suspect it was a corrupt file that sat in there.
