Cannot Update Adobe Flash

I keep getting an update notice in my Windows update stuff. I am running Win 8.1. The current version of the Adobe Flash Professional CS6 is 12.0.2.529. If I try to update the version I am told it is the latest version. The Windows update message is

Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB4462930)
(plus a lot of other stuff)

When I try to do that update I get the error code 80073712. I have tried Windows Troubleshooter, have downloaded the latest verion of the troubleshooter, cleared caches, rebooted, run Advanced System Care, etc., etc..

What should I do.

Have you uninstalled Flash Player and tried installing the newest version? If the update is coming from Windows update it should update automatically as mine does.

 

Error code 80073712 usually denotes that Windows Update has searched for a file/key value it needs, only to find it missing or corrupted in some fashion.
Do you have any issues with installing other Windows Updates other than the one provided for Flash Player?
It is sometimes the case that this error code will affect multiple Windows Updates and not be isolated to a single service.

If this is the case, a possible fix (on Win 7/8/10) would include the use of the Command Prompt running in administrator mode in order to run these commands to the registry!

Always make a back up of the registry first, and know how to utilize it if needed.
