Well I waited for a reply from Emisoft but no dice.

BTW I have been unable to update Java to update 20. I have update 18 installed but I cant even uninstall update 18 either.
I have tried every which way to install update 20 but I keep getting an error saying that the wizard was interrupted before Java could be installed and to try again later. I have tried the online installation, the offline installation version I have tweaked my machine every which way but no go. I have updated my MSI's from microsoft and that didnt help either. I have an HP desktop running XP service pack 3, 1 gig of ram and 35 gigs available on the HD. I have zone alarm free firewall, AVG antivirus 9.5 free Scotty WIn Patrol. Download accelerator plus *latest version, Speedbit video accelerator as well as the a squared which I am planning on removing and superantispyware free.
I have used JavaRa top try to update as well as trying from control panel. I always get the notification that there is a new update and even though I clicked he Icon the result is always the same no matter how I try. The wizard gets interrupted after calculating space for the offline method or as it starts to validate the install for the online method.

I even wrote to Sun.Java sending them the MSI temp files etc but never received a reply. This problem began with update 19 and now is the same with update 20. This leaves me with all of my browsers vulnerable and insecure... Firefox 3.5.3, Latest Google Chrome, Latest Opera and forget about IE 8 which is totally unstable and can not hold a web page long enough for me to read it. Especially on Microsoft websites!!!!

My ISP is TelMex and I am located in Ecuador where there is a lot of shannanigans going on with the police division of information dept who are the authoritities that investigate internet crime here, and for some time I have felt that my system account has been singled out for monitoring due to my being a foreigner (Cocaine trafficking is the big thing here and foreigners are almost always suspect because they can afford hi speed internet where the nationals who earn only $200 a month cant) Anyways, to make a long story short, I know that someone has definitely tampered with my system and I am thinking it might be the ISP's IT personnel because I keep finding subtle changes being made to my system which I didnt do and I know with how I am securing the computer must be making them upset that they have study all the new programs I keep downloading and changing in ENGLISH! My system keeps getting reset to spanish only and I have to keep resetting it to English. Microsofts MBSA analyser is now malfunctioning no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall it and all of these thing started happening when Java came out with update 19 on March 31st.

Now I know that people have had a hard time installing Java in the past and I am somewhat computer literate as I have run virus detection with several different programs trying to find out if it was originally due to that. But without the Java updated, everyone's computer is insecure. The only real solution I believe is to download the Java exe files seperately into the Java\JRE\bin folder and then run the updater which should do the trick. Only problem is they are nowhere to be had like that.

Further, the installer always says it can not connect to the website. Now I have read and reread all of the info at Oracle about this problem and they say its a mysterious installer problem which they are investigating. But I believe, at the risk of sounding paranoid, its an ISP problem. Am I wrong?

    md2lgyk I can't follow the rules

I had the same problem (using XP Home SP2). I ran JavaRa to clean things up but that didn't help. After using Add/Remove Programs to uninstall update 18, update 20 installed fine.

I'm not sure but seem to remember that updating through the Java console wouldn't work and I had to go directly to Sun's website to download the update.

You know I tried that last night and guess what? Still had the same problem but with a twist. It indicated that it could not connect to the web site either and it was for Java update 16!!!!
Now I have update 18 verified by Java and by Java Ra but add/remove lists it as update 18 although it says update 18 there as well.
I am wondering if I should just manually delete the whole Java folder using windows explorer or if I use REVO and manually delete every registry and file association it lists because even revo wont uninstall it but does show whats on the HD. ANy suggestions before I kill my computer?

Let me correct what I wrote. The add/remove directory lists it as update 18 but during the uninstall process it says it can not connect to the website to remove update 16

    Hi,
I have got good news. I just downloaded and tried a brand new download called Total Uninstall 5 from majorgeeks.com and was finally able to remove my old java update 18 which I discovered had old remnants of update 16 and although it took some doing, I was able to uninstall all of it and you know what? Java update 20 finally took and got installed. Thank you guys for the attention and help. Especially for that program too. After more than 3 weeks of trying I can finally rest. My computer is now secure and up to date and I can get on with my life again. Thank you thank you thank you
