Cannot update to AVG 9.0

Running XP home. When AVG is trying to install, I get the following error message:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Access is denied.


Do I need to get a different virus program?

BTW--AVG 8.5 runs fine. I just cannot install the update.

There have been several threads here recently about AVG update problems - do a quick search through the Software forum for possible solutions...

Seems as if the primary solution is to d/l the AVG Removal Tool, most likely from the AVG site...

I just ended up removing the whole thing and installed Avast! instead. Figured if there were so many problem with the thing already, probably wasn't worth keeping it.
