    Hi gang-

Recently bought a Canon A-95 Digital Camera. After hours of frustration, I've found that it's apparently incompatible with my LEXMARK X83 Scanner/Printer. It seems as though the two pieces of hardware are fighting over the XP driver.

The only time that I've been able to connect the camera to my computer is when I've uninstalled or disabled the scanner. Otherwise, It shows up on my Device Manager under "Imaging" with a yellow exclamation point....which leads to an "ERROR 38".

Canon claims that you don't need to download an extra driver if you're using Windows XP. I did anyway. Nothing.

I just downloaded an updated Lexmark driver. Again, nothing.

I have uninstalled drivers in safe mode (advice from Dell). No luck. I took the camera to the neighbor, who's also running Windows XP. We had no trouble.

I think that the culprit is the Lexmark. This is bugging the sh*t out of me. I'm picking up a flash card reader later in the week, so hopefully, this won't be a "big deal". Can you guys give me any advice? (It's turned into a matter of principle....obsession!!!!) :D

    Many thanks-

    Nanette

Canon are correct, you don't need drivers for XP as it's seen as a removable storage device.

Do they both work if they are installed and operated individually?

    How are they connected?

If it's USB do they have their own ports or via a hub, and if so is it AC or bus powered?

    Hellllllooooo, Australia!

Yep. I presently have the Lexmark disabled, and all is well. Apparently, they're fighting over the XP driver.

They're both USB devices. The printer scanner is connected on the back of the computer. I've connected the camera into both the front USB ports, as well as the back.

Just received the following from Lexmark:

I've done all of this already. *sighing*

I'm going to buy a card reader when I'm out and about tomorrow. Being USB, I'm hoping that it won't be fighting over a driver with the Lexmark.

On another forum, somebody posted this link for me.... apparently, I'm fortunate, as I've had great success with this Lexmark (until the camera came along!):

    Wish me luck, Insomniac! :)

    Greetings and salutations!

Apart from a driver issue, which you really don't have any control over, the only other probable thing it could be is power.

As USB uses power and is bus powered for Plug 'n Pray, if your motherboard or power supply are overloaded from both devices being used at the same time, then this can create problems.

If you remove the printer and you plug in another USB device, but one that uses a bit of power like a scanner etc, and run that with the camera, does it do the same thing?

If you continue having problems, then the power issue is something you can look into.

    Good luck.

Good thinking.... I've got a web-video camera (????) that's USB. I'll plug that in along with the new digital Canon and report back. Thanks for the tip. :)

I don't think the web camera has the same power requirements, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

You can check power usuage of the devices in Device Manager, under USB and in the power tab.

    Anyway, goodbye and good luck.

Both cameras were fine together. (This gives me hope that a card reader won't be a problem!)

I SINCERELY thank you for your time, my friend.

You're welcome, although I didn't really do much.

However, if you want to thank me, who am I not to accept? :)
