Hello, I hope someone can answer this problem.

I have been to Canon Support and have gone nowhere. They came it's my window xp that is giving me the greive.
I am getting "Window cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39).
I have gone to MS Support and it's all about the CD driver and not a Scanner Driver.
I have viewed my config, autoexe that in my system32 directory and it is the same as what MS Support tells me to make it.
I have Window XP SP3. The scanner is connected via USB.
    Thanks

    Hi Welcome to Majorgeeks

I just need to clarify something from your post above which slightly confused me with what the title of your thread is about, no biggy but just wish for me to make sure I fully understand your issue.

Do you get when you plug the scanner in via USB a found new hardware popup in the systsem tray that then asks you for your driver CD?

Is it that you can connect your Scanner to the PC, but cannot install the driver software off the CD as Windows will not read the CD due to this code 39 error?

Will give two options as I maybe offline soon

    1. If it is the code 39 error and your PC cannot read the CD and its driver then this is the possible fix for that here

    2. If its that you can download the last known drivers for your scanner here just select your OS then under Drivers you have this one

Scanner Driver ScanGear CSU v5.2.2 for Windows 2000/XP
    SG-CSU522.exe

    and under Software this

CanoScan Toolbox v2.2.3 for Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
    ScanGearToolboxCSv223.exe

Thanks for the welcome... hope you can help.

The CD drive is not the problem. It works. but when I go to MS Support for the code 39 all it talks about is the CD drivers. There is no reference on code 39 and Scanner drivers.
I have done all the downloading from Canon with Canon support and they are pointing the finger at Windows XP.
Right now in my Device Manager screen there is a yellow ! and when I open it up it states"window can not load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing(code 39).
Is there a solution to this problem?
    thanks

    Hi

Code 39 is generally a generic driver not installed or broken issue, so what happens when you install those drivers I linked to at Canon, as in when you install do you get any error messages at all, if so what and be verbatim in what they say.

In Device manager are their any more yellow ! marks othe than by the Scanner, if so what by?

Is your PC an OEM one as in one bougth from Dell, HP, Sony etc, if so then what make and model number?

Did this scanner work before installing Windows XP SP3?

Installation of Canon drivers installed with no error message
The only yellow ! is on the scanner
The PC is a generic one (AMD Family 7 Model 10)
This has been working until I had to reinstall Window XP. ( I got one nasty virus) So it went back to the shop to be reinstalled.

I don't know what has happened but today I decided to install a webcam and guess what... the scanner now is working... the yellow ! is gone... the code 39 is gone.
I can only assume installing the webcam driver fix the scanner driver they are both under the Imaging device tab in the Device Manager.

Window XP is one tempermental operating system.... beware....:p
