Canon Printer Error 1681

All of a sudden after replacing my small black cartrdige I am getting an error message 1681, "more the one tank of the following color is installed" the small black,changed cartrige several times, even took a cartidge that was working and did not work, Tried the internet and could not get any soloutions for error code 1681. T.I.A. Oh the printer is a Canon MG6320

 

This printer calls for two black ink have had it for years, I need to know why, when I replace the cartridge it does not fix it tried several disks that all work on other Canons

 

Usually Canon have a small black cartridge & a large black cartridge. Which was changed?
Are you using genuine Canon inks or third party? If third party then the chip may not be working correctly.

 

He stated in the first sentence, "my small black cartridge".

But I wonder too, was the replacement a genuine Canon cartridge or 3rd party? I'm am not starting or getting into another debate over the use of genuine or 3rd party/aftermarket inks. I am just curious because there is not the assurance of quality or consistency with 3rd party inks as there is with sticking with the genuine inks. Yet I know many have, and I have too, had good service from some 3rd party inks. But I have also seen problems immediately go away after replacing 3rd party inks with genuine.

HOWEVER, I have also seen problems go away after replacing "new" genuine ink cartridges with another new genuine cartridge. Point being, even new cartridges, regardless their maker, can be bad right out of the box. Try another.

 

Yup, I've been bitten with both problems:
1. good 3rd party carts and bad 3rd party carts
2. good genuine carts and bad genuine carts

I keep an almost empty genuine cart around (actually both black and color) just to help me troubleshoot.

 

The second black cartridge is actually a 'grey ink cartridge'.

 

I thought you were kidding, Eldon. But I see they do mention a gray/grey ink cart.
The black is item #250. The other four carts: blue, yellow, magenta and gray are #251.

Replace the one 250 cart with a 251 cart and the error should disappear.

 

I have a Canon which uses two black ink cartridges. There is a grey cartridge availed too for my model.

 

Does your printer use #250 and #251 carts?

 

If your question is for me then no, my printer uses 550 & 551.
The small black can be replaced with a grey.

Further down it says this:
You cannot print if the ink tank is installed in the wrong position. Be sure to install the ink tank in the correct position according to the label on the print head holder.
You cannot print unless all the ink tanks are installed.

To the OP, open the door and see which light is flashing; that is the tank that needs replacing.
