can't access hdd - arse

Hi, i have a nice little lappy, the other day I reinstalled windows and it didnt find a bunch of the drivers, anyway, i posted on here about it and someone recommended a tool that searches for drivers needed. I got a bunch and installed them. one of them was something to do with VIA chipsets or something, anyway, next time i turned my machine off and on again, i get a blue screen at the very start saying that the Hdd can not be accessed, something about enumeration problems? I dont have the exact error message here at the mo but will post it when I can. In the mean time, i'm sure this is because of these drivers, but what can I do to get around them? I have tried booting off the windows cd as well but it doesnt like that either!
any ideas?

have you tried running a repair on the installation?
