Recently had a WD 74 gig Raptor (manufactured May 2007) just up and die, in the middle of the day. Integral part of main system. When connected to Intel 865glcMB, system goes to bios and will not boot up. Have other pc's with same set up. Every time connect this drive as primary or no boot drive, system can not read, and list "hit F4 to go to setup (bios)".

Bios sees the drive in drive configuration, but does not see it in boot up lists, or boot sequences menu.

Changed circuit board with identical drive and no results. Put old questionable circuit board on other drive - works fine. Nothing (other sata, IDE, 3.5 ghost, boot thumb, or win xp pro cd, will boot when this drive is connected.

And yes, by the way, had back up service online with Intuit, but it doesn't work. Been dealing with that for three days now! Directories are there but no data, even though recieved successful backup notice each day. By the by, thier auto back up with the accounting software doesn't work either, so all local backups for the past few weeks are no-accessable as well.

Perform Manual backups, regularly, but these are ovr a week old! Also do manual transfer 3x weekly to remote system at home, but ya guessed it, home internet was jacked up for about a week and missed three backups. At least the cable guys came out and repaired the problems. Intuit has not responded to five enhanced support e-mail requests.

I found out, via Shri Lanka, that their up to their eyballs with problems for the last week.

Can't read and copy what you can't access.

Can I open sata drive and swap anything out with similar drive, to access one sub-directory on this POS. Need excel and word docs.

Removed holding screws, (6pt star) but have to crack the lid off. Board just lifts off no force required.

Board is still under OEM warranty so at least I can get it replaced. But, if there is a way to access this drive I would prefer that.

    :)
