Can't access sites after loging

I am having win98 as OS on my PC. When I use my dialup connection to access the net, I am able to log on and the icon in the task bar is seen after loging. But I am not able to access any web site and task icon show no bites sent or received. I have set the brower (internet explorer) to work online. Can any one help me please.

Do you have all the necessary Windows 98 updates from Microsoft including Dial-Up Networking (DUN)?

Do you have the latest and correct Modem drivers?

Are there any reported problems with your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

Have you paid your ISP bills?

Did you install anything recently that may have affected your system?

Can you use your PC to dial out using the standard phone dialer?

Do you hear a dial-tone and blips when your modem dials?
