Can't back up files with Windows 7 backup

I'm trying to back up my files in Windows 7, home premium. I created an image of both drives on my main disk with no trouble. But when I try to back up selected files the copy soon stops with the error message that my backup didn't complete because of error code 0x80070002, the system cannot find the file specificied.

It does not matter if I try to back up my files to my other internal SATA drive or to my USB drive (old IDE drive in an enclosure).

It does not matter what folders or files I choose to back up; I tried one select folder that contains no mail or address book folders, on disk F - not on the system drive, and certainly not in my user folder on my system drive. Yes, the files were actually there.

I don't have an NVIDIA whatever rapid USB controller or whatever; I checked in device manager and the specific whatever controller in question is Intel or something.

I've exhausted all the possible reasons suggested in the Microsoft knowledge base on this subject.

Last night I tried it with Paragon, and it hung up when Windows ran into some problem moving my Genealogy folder after moving a bunch of smaller folders.

I am able to manually move the folders one at a time with no trouble, and it does not matter which backup drive I move them to. In fact I successfully moved all of them to the other SATA drive. - but it takes way too long to do it that way. I want something to back them up automatically!

Online many people seem to have given up on Windows 7 backup.

What gives? Any way to get around it?

Incidentlaly, someone recommended Acronis, and I have it, and that program is hoaky hangup city

Acronis is one of if not THE best cloning, imaging and file backup programs currently available and infinitely superior to Win 7 Backup. What version of Acronis are you using? You are likely to have issues with Win 7 if using any version earlier than ATI 2011.
