    These are common and you only see a very small portion of what posts like this the admin team see and many are sent into the moderation pile.

    One time I was literally on a spammer tail - reporting as he was posting all over.. :-D

    Yeah I know they are ironic and a PITA, the spamfilter that MA has setup filters loads these days so you dont get to see them.

    as an FYI, majority of this spam is from apammers using automated applications and one in particular, once they fill the list of forums they wish to spam its plain sailing as its hard to ban many words like Nike, Lacoste etc as we may ban too many innocent posts so its a balancing act of what core phrases and words are uses to send a post to moderation.

    They sure do have nerve, don't they? But what I don't understand, is how they can continue... Once their IP has been noted for spam, doesn't that put them on a sort of 'black-list' ??? Just wondering....

    They certainly are bold, that is for sure! Nice catch sikvik! That one was really wild! :-D

    It is a waste of time trying to IP ban them. Most use Proxy servers not static IPs and thus their IP changes all the time. You cannot ban the range of IPs being used either since you could windup banning a whole city or more.

    There are times when the spam will get posted to 6 or 7 forum before either one of us gets signed in or we finish something that we are doing and get the chance to notice the posts. That is rare, but it does happen. Even deleting the user does not stop it as they often come back with another user name. One in particular we have been dealing with for quite a few months. :major

    Ya, we have a persistent SOB like that too, selling a video conversion proggie. Yup, on bannin IP's or worse, ranges. We ban the U/N and block the IP for a couple weeks and that's about all we can do. I read an article where some spammers employ humans to defeat the captcha in India, can't defend against that until they actually post.

    Indeed on persistent spammers to TimW and I know the one he means and also to Augie as I know thta one too as we have them here too, sadly they do post in a way that many may get sucked into it being a legit post as suggestion until they use the app and find out its a retail paid for one.


    I guess we all just have to be vigilant, but many here are savvy enough to know the crud from the good.

    Thanks, guys, that is truly fascinating... I wondered about how you would block an IP, but then also wondered, if you blocked my IP, you would for sure block an entire area code... Doubt if that would go over too well... Just gonna have to help ya keep an eye on things, more eyes sure can't hurt tho....

    You guys do a wonderful job on here tho... it is nice to be able to chat without all the smut some like to post.. I really do enjoy it... ;) (Even if I do need a nudge once in a while !!!!! :-D)

    ...Don't look now, but the same spammer has resurfaced in the Lounge.rolleyes

    Best thing we can all do is Report, (not post) the spammer. That way, we all become malware/spam fighters to an extent.

    I have reported probably hundreds of these spammers and advertisers but when they multi post it can be a slow job without the advantage of the mods, we have to wait 60 seconds between reports and only last week i had on with 8 posts but we will remain vigilant.

    Nah, don't bother reporting the same spammer multiple times Bill as I'm sure vB has an option to 'delete all posts' by a certain user.
