I have an Aptiva 2170-175 with an AMD K6 2 380, a have just upgraded to a K6 2 500. When i go into the bios to change the clock speed it wont let me. I heared that in order to change the clock speed i have the change the switches on the motherboard.

I was given this site but dont understand how to read the chart

Ok thats the diagram of the PCB thats the motherboard. Its just a schematic of the whole board with the little switches labeled clearly. Usually the names of the switches/jumpers are labeled on the board as well. All you need to do is print off that diagram and hold it the right way up in relation to the board to give you a map to work from.

    You will want to
    1. Make sure the voltage is set to 2.2V
    2. Set the fsb to 100Mhz, keeping PCI @ 33.3Mhz, RAM @ 100Mhz (thats the clock divider by the way)
    3. Set the CPU multiplier to 5

    1. To do this, find SW1, and switch on 7. (this is the default value, in any case)

    2. If you have PC100 SDRAM, then find SW3 on the motherboard and switch 3 & 4 on.

    3. Now for the multiplier, go to SW1 and 2 & 3.

Now you should be running the K6 2 @500mhz, and everything else will be the same as before.
