I recently was infected with some adware and a trojan. I lost my internet connectivity at the same time. I sucessfully removed the bugs from the PC, but I still cannot connect to the net. I am getting the error message that a new IP cannot be created.

I have done all the normal things, winsocket, XP tools, registry clean, the whole bit, but nothing has helped. Is it possible the virus ruined the network card? Should I re-install IE? Please help

This is a Dell 3000, desk top. Nothing fancy about the computer.

Uninstall your network driver, restart pc, reinstall driver, START, RUN, CMD, enter these:

    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Restart pc. Check out the Web.

Yep, tried the ipconfig flush and still nothing. I also deleted the network driver and re-installed, nothing. I feel like I am missing something simple.

Try a repair install if you have the windows setup disk. Or call up your ISP. They'll probably tell you what I said.

dialup or broadband? (I ask because you mentioned both a winock fix which is dialup and network card which is broadband so I'm confused)
When you look in Device manager, does the NIC appear without yellow ! or red X?

I ended up throwing a linxus NIC card in it and it worked perfect. I'm thinking the integrated card got corrupt somehow.

I'm back in business. Thanks for helping.
