My grandfather had a the Privacy Protection virus on his computer that I removed with MalwareBytes, but now he can't connect to the internet. Other computers can, wirelessly and wired, so I know it's neither the router nor modem. I tried ipconfig /flushdns, /registerdns, /release, /renew and on renew I get the "error occured while renewing" message. Then I tried to assign the IP adress myself with 99% certainty that I had the right settings, but no luck there. I can't even connect to the router and automatically I get a 169.254 IP even though DHCP is enabled on the router. Then, I went and baught a new PCI Ethernet card, installed the drivers, restarded and still no luck. Also, system resore doesn't work, so no going back that way.

I've followed URL="http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=179047"]this guide[/URL] though, but no positive results. Also, the computer doesnt seem to have a dllcache folder in system32. I'm running XP if that matters too.

Any idea how to get it up and running?
