cant connect to internet

After hard drive failure,replacement of and clean install of xp pro,I cant get to internet.I am on a Dell 4550 tag#8XORK21,when looking for driver details I get
a box that says "NO DRIVER FILES ARE REQUIRED OR HAVE BEEN LOADED FOR THIS DEVICE" in device manager under other devices all are yellow,ie,ethernet controller,multimedia audio controller,pci input device ,sm bus controller.
I tried going to Dell and downloading drivers and installing but nothing happened!Can someone please help and (BABY STEPS PLEASE).

Your Service Tag # is invalid. I did substitute a '0' for the 'O' and came up with a Dell Dimension 4550, so I'm assuming this is your machine.

Most Dells require a specific driver installation order, as follows:

Code:

1.  Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS)

2.  Chipset

3.  Video Adapter

4.  Network Interface Card (NIC)

5.  Laptops Only: Dell Quickset or Dell Control Point Manager (DCP)

6.  Audio Adapter

7.  Modem

8.  Wireless Network Card

9.  Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards

10.  Other Devices

Try this: go to the Dell site, plug in your Tag # to get to the driver download page, drill through to find and acquire those missing drivers (make sure the "All related drivers for your Product" button is pressed) and then install them in the proper order. Mind any reboot prompts as you're loading each package.
