ok, so this is the hardware i have:

    1 cable modem (Toshiba PCX1100U)
    1 router (D-Link DI-614+)
    2 computers

I'm trying to connect to comcast cable, but I can't connect to it. The router is set to dynamic IP. Putting in even an IP address to a website fails. When the router is connected to one of the computers (the one that we used the installation disk with) it works. Otherwise, it doesn't work. Any ideas why it won't work?

Make sure DNS service is enabled..
if it is, then try putting in the ISP's DNS in manually on each PC.

Reset router, Then reconfigure router settings ( reset will return router to default settings)

I figured it out. or something finally started working. either way, both ping and dns work now. the weird thing is that i had to delete the router's dns servers to get dns to work... i have no clue why...

I'm just curious, but how did you manage to delete the router's dns servers?

Why don't you match the settings of the one with the installation disk? Do you have a firewall turned on? Better yet, why not use the disk on each PC?

Hydragon and Whicky1978, you are answering a thread that is nearly 2½ years old.

I think you might be better re-stating your problem/s, as a new thread, but that is just my opinion.

Each user's PC configuration, and problem, is unique. ;)

Think of how many MS updates there have been to fix MS problems in that time alone, as one example of how things change over 2 years. Bazza
