    Hi
My daughters laptop (Fujitsu S Series Lifebook) can't connect to wirelessly to our new Wireless modem (Dynalink). My laptop works OK, but even though hers says Its connected wirelessly and signal strength is excellent, I can't connect to Google unless its with the ethernet cable.

What I get is "the page cannot be displayed" and when I click on "Diagnose Connection Problems" and view the diagnostic log it says "Error attmpting to validate the Winsock base providers: 2" and "Not all base service provider entries could be found in the winsock catalog. A reset is needed.

I've tried everything and attach a highjack this file. Any ideas?

Try this (it's for SP2, but should work for SP3):
Go to: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

First, reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing in (or copy and paste): netsh winsock reset catalog
    (Enter)

Second, reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing in (or copy and paste): netsh int ip reset reset.log
    (Enter)

Done that - now I've lost the wireless icon from Internet Connections. And I cant find a wireless thingy under network adapters (i'm sure it was there before). Also the wireless connectivity icon showing the signal quality is no longer showing too. I'm wondering if the wireless card has stopped working.

    Have you tried rebooting?
If you do reboot, turn it off and remove the battery, hold the start button for 30 seconds, then replace and reconnect. Might help.

yes I've tried rebooting - and switching off and on the wireless switch, but still can't get any wireless signal now.

Is there any other way of checking if the wireless card is working?

No easy way that I know of.
However, you should go to the hardware manager and see if there is anything happening there. (Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager).
Go down to Network Adapters, expand that and see if there is anything indicating a problem.
You may need to reinstall your drivers for the adapter (even if no problem is showing).
