Can't connect without restoring

I am trying to connect my laptop to my son's wireless network in his home. It connects to the network, but will not connect to the internet unless I do a restore. Then it will work until the next day and it starts all over again. But now I just installed a big Microsoft update and am concerned about undoing that with the restore. Any suggestions ?

 

First of all, thanks for your quick response. It has taken me a few days to try a cat5 connection.

Yes, it works fine with a cat5 connection, but will not connect to the internet if I go wireless. It will connect to the wireless network, but not the internet.

I am traveling to visit family. I did not have this problem at home or at another's house. Here, my son has 2 wireless networks, one upstairs and one downstairs. Initially, I was able to connect to either, but now, not at all.

I will be back at the other house Monday and will see what happens there. If it works fine, like before, then I will assume it is how the networks are set up at my son's house.

 

Just gonna throw some stuff out there:

It's possible he doesn't have enough clients allowed from his routers. I had 5 clients max enabled and when my brother and sister came over, each with a wifi-capable smart phone and laptop, one of the devices connected to my access point but got no service.

Also, it's possible that you have an incorrect password for his wireless network. Again, my sister had been at my place once before and saved the connection. When she came back recently, I had changed the password and she was unable to connect.

Take a look and see if either of those apply in your situation.
