Cant defrag.

Every time I try to defrag. my computer freezes. Have tried different software with same result. Any suggestions??

 

Hi, It would be helpful to know what OS you're using, how much HD space you have free, how much RAM you have, etc.

 

I have windows vista,1 g memory,96 g available mem

 

I had same problem once,

what i had was 2-3 software programs doing/trying to defrag, when i started them, tune-up etc

once i had cancelled these out did defrag using microsoft system tools work...

 

Okay what Defrag software have you tried? Have you looked at the link MarkTrent listed to help make Vista more efficent? Then my last question, try Downloading CCleaner From Here

then running defrag.

 

I want first of all to apologizing to all that sent possible solutions to my problem for not following up. I was just happy to see such a great response to my problem(greatly appreciated). to follow up on my problem, I found out that if my computer sits idle for any length of time it freezes. Apparently not defrag problem but something else, possibly compatibility problem, dont know. Ran decrapifier and ccleaner and also options for cleanup in advanced system care. Again thanks to all that responded!!
