All I know is that the icon for the torrent service isnt in the tool tray. Also its not running in the processes list in the task manager. Right now Im running through the malware removal guide. Keep the ideas coming guys I really appreciate it.

Also link to this topic so they will know what you have done. Give them some time as there is only a few of them in that forum and it can take 24 hours or more for a reply.

Don't forget the MGtools and Malwarebytes logs. Also describe what problems you are having. "here" is not enough information.

You never posted the MGtools and Malwarebytes logs either. That's the first thing they are going to have you do is post ALL of the requested logs.

    Hi

If you have tried what DomLuc posted and made 100% sure that no torrent applications where running, then reboot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and try and delete his suggestion of PocketKillbox or this one MoveOnBoot

As even when you close some applications down it doesnt necassarily mean that all processes that are hooked to the main application are closed, Safe Mode should get around this.

Even uninstall any torrent download applications you have and then run CCleaner to cean up the temps and registry and then reboot into Safe Mode and try the suggested apps again.

This thread reminded me that my XP laptop has an old desktop icon I have never found a way to delete, but I just succeeded in deleting it by entering its name into the Find field of Regedit, and deleting all found references to it.

I did take a system restore point first.

Maybe they contain unallowed characters in their filename? Such characters can sometimes sneak in, especially in .torrent files. You can get Windows to ignore these characters and delete the file in Command Prompt by prefixing your file paths with \\?\. Try doing this in Cmd:

    del "\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Desktop\Name of shortcut"

You know what you could do if everything fails? I had the same problem with two folders. They both had invalid filenames which prevented Explorer from opening, moving, deleting or renaming (basically I couldn't do anything with them). I tried EVERYTHING - Command Prompt, Unlocker, Killbox and various other programs. Nothing worked. In the end, I loaded Nero BackItUp ImageTool and that did it ^^ 15GB free!
P.S. Names were "Unformatted C:" and "Unformatted C:/". Both ":" and "/" are forbidden by Windows XP in file/folder names (try making new file or folder and putting ":" or "/" in).

Have you made sure that *all* Torrent programs and *any* torrent processes (including any that have been configured as a 'Windows Service') have been completely shut down on your system when you try to deleted those icons?
If you have (100% certain) then I also think you need to go the malware removal root just to rule it out.

What does "Windows service" mean? I tried uninstalling the torrent app and deleting the icons but no luck.

Can someone explain a little more indepth about going into safe mode again.

    Thanks

Have you tried my suggestion in #18? If you need any help it's Start > Run > type Regedit > OK, and when it opens, Edit > Find, and type in the name of the icon exactly as it is on your desktop. If necessary, right click the icon and click Properties to ascertain its exact name. Make sure you start the search at the top of the registry, and if you get a hit, right click the key and delete it. Use F3 to find any more, and do the same with them.

Before doing this it would be a good idea to run System Restore to create a restore point prior to editing the registry.

This method has a very high probability of success.
