Can't delete a bad registry entry

PestPatrol flags this registry entry as bad:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY__11F*00DF*00E4*0006#*00B7*00BA*00C4*00D6`I

But when I tell Pestpatrol to delete it, it says "Not deleted - access denied (registry)".

And Windows doesn't allow me to delete it manually. Is this a problem,
or am I lucky that I couldn't delete it.

I ran close to 10 different scans and I am confident this is the only
potential threat to my computer. But do I need to get rid of this?

 

I'm not sure why you would need to delete it or why Pest Patrol doesn't like it. Services seem to create these LEGACY_ keys, so perhaps there was a service that it got rid of.

If you're confident that this key should be removed, do the following:
1. Boot into Safe Mode and log on as an Administrator
2. Open regedit, and browse to the offending key. (If you're running Windows 2000, run regedt32.exe instead of regedit.)
3. Right-click the key and choose "Permissions".
4. Grant the Everyone group the Full Control permission, and click OK.
5. Now delete the key or re-run PestPatrol and it should be able to delete the key itself.

 

Thanks. I had checked out the permission selection but I didn't want to
go with it before I knew for sure.
