I was downloading a torrent file when my computer froze. Now I have all these files with weird characters "--$$$--" and I can't delete any of them. I keep getting the error message, "The file is invalid or too long..." How do I get rid of these files?

You could try one of these methods ( by no means all options but the ones I could remember off hand )

    1. Try Safe Mode
    2. Pocket Killbox
    3. MoveOnBoot
    4. Unlocker

okay, tried all those options. none of them worked. the reason it can't delete is because the file names are all retarded. there are characters that i don't even know how to type. please help. and i tried dling the same file again so that it would fix the names but it didn't work.

Move on boot has always deleted any stuborn file i have ever had..The file you have what torrent app did you use? Have you made sure no other app is using the file such as your torrent app?

With MoveonBoot you do not need to type the file names. Just click the elipse button and drill down to the file you want to delete.

Once you have MoveOnBoot installed, the easiest way is to just right-click the file/s in question and "Delete on next boot"

If the characters are using extended ascii characters like (for example): ± ▐ ▀ ≡ or other extended characters, then you may want to:

Click START, RUN, type in CMD (press enter)

    chkdsk /r c:

It will ask a question (Would you like to scedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts y/n?), type the lettery y then press (enter).

Reboot. See if this fixes any issues.

when i did this. my dos prompt came up and said "Parse error."

Also to the other people? How do you use moveonboot. I tried to enter the file I was trying to delete and the program just closes.

    One of three ways

    1. As Insomniac said and right click and choose Delete on reboot
    2. drag and drop the file into the box
    3. click the three ... and browse for file

then click next > choose Delete file > Next > Start > Finish > then Re-boot
