Can't delete icon

Vista Home Premium.... I went into Add/Remove Programs and removed some programs (adware toolbars, several fake registry cleaners, etc) and everything removed just fine. But when I got back to the desktop, RegCure's icon was still there, the icon didn't get removed when I uninstalled the program. So I tried to drag it to the Recycle Bin; I tried right clicking and Delete; no dice. Here's the error I get: "Item Not Found. Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\Users\Public\Desktop\RegCure.lnk. Verify the item's location and try again." So, how do I get rid of this freakin' icon?

Be warned. I don't know if this will work for icons, or if it works in Vista. But maybe try Move on Boot at http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html File Name fileutil.exe

You could try dragging the icon into the MoveonBoot box, save and then reboot.

I've used it with excellent results in W98SE and XP Pro, BUT NOT VISTA. Use at your own risk. Bazza

 

Thanks Bazza, but the problem is solved Booted to a UBCD4Win and discovered that the uninstall that I initiated and saw complete was either fake or didn't work or whatever. I manually removed the program folder and removed the startup entries and the removed the icon. I rebooted in normal mode and it was gone. I ran a 3rd party uninstaller and a legit reg cleaner and made sure it was GONE. Thanks though, I'll keep that link for future use.
