Can't delete old contact in Outlook 2002

So my husband has auto-complete when he types a recipient's name in. He wants Joe Grillo's NEW contact to pop up, but Joe's name comes up with his old email address. I've deleted the incorrect email address in Contacts/Address Book, ALL mail folders that had anything with the name Joe Grillo in it (to make sure no traces of his old email were present), compacted all folders, emptied his deleted items and did a search for this incorrect email address in every folder and can't find it anywhere. When I click on it's Properties and ask it to locate the address, it tells me that it's not in Contacts and can't be located, yet when my husband types in Joe Grillo - it's the one and only contact that is available. Please advise. It's really spooky.

    Thanks!!

I don't for sure whether this will solve the problem but I think it's worth a try. Download CCleaner and run it.

Note that a standard installation of CCleaner will install the Yahoo toolbar. But, you can avoid that by simply unchecking a box for Yahoo toolbar that appears soon after starting the CCleaner installation.

    You might try this,

    1. Create a new email message in Outlook.
    2. Start typing the name or address you want to remove.
    3. Use the down arrow key to highlight the desired (undesired) entry.
    4. Press Del.

Outlook finds addresses in address books and contacts folders. My thoughts here is that the name is in your PERSONAL address book.

Go to TOOLS services and click on the ADDRESSING tab. Is it Outlook express? The bottom box shows which address books are searched and in what order. All this depends on which version of Outlook you have.

Okay, I tried all 3 of these suggestions and none of them worked. I have Outlook (not Express) and I thought it might be in a different address book as well, but he only has one: CONTACTS. He doesn't have anything in his Personal Addresses.

    Any more thoughts?

If Steve's suggestion didnt work Steph as I would have expected it to, as that is how I delete the email recipients from Outlook 2003.

I suspect that your Auto Complete Cache is corrupt and MS offer this help How to reset the nickname and the automatic completion caches in Outlook

I would suspect as I have not had to refresh the cache that your hubby will have to start from scratch and new and regular used email addys will populate the autocomplete again as they are used.

BTW hope you are both good and well :)
