the dnld fails. Msg reads: "CRC failure in files.dat" and "unexpected end of archives." Have tried Grisoft site, FileHippo, and Major Geek dnld sites. ALL FAIL. I've turned off McAfee Firewall, tried dnlding w/o McAfee AV running (!) gasp....I'm trying to dnld AVG in order to dump this POS McAffee Ver 7 since it has slowed my PC and its so danged tedious to run. Any ideas? (If you haven't guessed by now, I'm no IT).

You can't download (from the internet) or you can't install (on your computer)?

Well, since you mention it, it is the install that is interrupted! Oh meee, I gotta start payin' attention! The box "dnld complete" and "run" box came up and then it stopped during the install with the above msgs coming up. Whut th'????...cautious me

Are you on dial-up? It may be a case of the file didn't completely download all the way.

Also, I would try emptying your temp files.

    What OS are you using? 95, 98, ME, NT3.5, NT3.51, NT4, 2000, xp, etc?

Yes, I'm on dial-up w/PeoplePc, and lost the connection (a rarity) one time outta 4-5 trys. I'm running XP/SP2. Actually had AVG recently until my son purchased McAfee Ver 7 and installed it for me. Worst thing he coulda done, IMHO, because it is so slowwww. I only use the firewall and AV outta the suite and still hate it. I just cleared temp files, and will try dnld again. Will post results later.....cautious///

OK folks, looks like the dnld wouldn't fit into my desktop folder, so located it elsewhere. Dnld'd/installed great. Have "blocked" McAfee utilities except their firewall with "hackerwatch." Hope they are not large enough files to slow down PC! Maybe I should just uninstall the entire MCAFEE suite and use the MS firewall?? This PC ran twice as fast B 4 installing SP2 Package and the McAffee Ver7. They call this progress? Any feedback/ideas appreciated and thanks for steering me in the right direction. "GEEKY IS GOOD! Cautious...
