I'm having a problem with wmp10. I have WXP SP2. I was having trouble with wmp10 and thought I would uninstall and reinstall, only to find out it couldn't be uninstalled. I've tried to install over it but keep getting this message that say's...File wmplayer.exe has a version number of 10.0.0.3931 where 10.0.0.3803 was expected. Would you like to reinstall from Microsoft website? I click yes, and I get the same message. Do I have to learn to live without wmp10? Some of the stations I listen to only use it. If you can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you Maggie

First, describe the symptoms or issues you are having with the player. Be as specific as possible as to it's behavior or settings. Also your web browser settings may be having some affect on the player's operation as well. By the way, that latest security update for WMP10 caused my player's msn video to partly malfunction. I fixed that by uninstalling the update.

It started when I was trying to get rid of a "blank" icon on my desktop. I used "move on Boot"(I think thats what it was called). Well it got rid of everything! I finally got that resolved and thats when I had the media player problem. I tried uninstalling it and that's when I found out I couldn't. I've been to a lot of forums to see what to do, and basicly they indicate there is nothing you can do, because it is a part of Windows! Of course I can't get any help from Microsoft unless I pay alot of money. So if this is unresolvable, I'll just live with it. Thanks for your help. Maggie

You CAN uninstall windows media player! Where are you looking? It's in the 'Windows Components' section of add/remove programs.

    To do so, try this:

    1. Open control panel.
    2. Double-click 'Add/remove programs'
    3. Press Windows Components (or hit alt + w)
    4. Scroll down to windows media player and uncheck the box beside it
    5. Press next

Windows media player is now uninstalled.

Well, your suggestion worked, but I can't install WMP10!! It says I already have it running!! I even restarted my pc. If I try to delete the files, it says they are write protected.(Whatever that means). I feel I have run out of options. Maggie

    Hmmm... try this:

if you get the error that it is running, hit ctrl + shift + esc. This brings up task manager. Make sure the processes tab is selected. If you want to sort this list alphabetically, you can click the image name header... we're looking for an entry that says wmplayer.exe...do you see it there? If so, highlight it with a single click and press end process. Now, try your install again.
